After the boy died, he was buried underground in a beautifully decorated stone coffin. He is the son of a powerful priest, still wrapped in clothing to prevent the corpse from decaying. His body lay so long that it was impossible for the scientist to open a gold-coated shroud covering his face, fearing that it would immediately be broken into dust. Since his premature death, scientists have opened the stone for the first time. His toes are still the same. After the lid was removed from the casket on which the boy’s body was placed, scientist JP-Brown breathed a sigh of relief.
Scientists made CT scans inside the stone sarcophagus. Through X-ray images, they could see the inside of the sarcophagus. The results showed that the boy's feet were separated and part of the shroud had fallen off, revealing several toes. His shrouds and masks were cracked and twisted to one side. Scientists will repair these places.
Brown and three other scientists at the Chicago Field Museum just made a stand using fixtures and metal parts, then raised the fragile stone coffin cover. The researchers wore blue surgical gloves and raised this wonderful device with a casket cover and carefully placed it on the table of a humidity control laboratory at the Field Museum.
Brown is not worried that this mummy will be broken into dust when he opens the stone coffin as described in the movie plot. It has been wrapped in linen for so long. Part of the stone sarcophagus was previously lost, causing the mummy to reach out to the outside world.
Brown walks around the open stone coffins, fingering a sign, colored resin on a linen shroud, or gold plating on a mask, while explaining what they mean. The scientist pointed out that if Minettis lives, he will become a priest like his father. Scientists do not know why he died so young.
Brown said: "Whatever the mummy, the most fascinating thing is that it was kept for so long. In fact, they are all fragile." The Field Museum has owned this mummy since the 1920s. Get it at the Chicago Historical Society. There are 30 full-length Egyptian mummies in this museum, and the Minnidis mummy is just one of them.
