In the utilization of nickel resources, it is currently dominated by sulfide ore, accounting for about 55%. Nickel-iron alloys are basically derived from the processing of oxidized ore.

In 1996 the world production of cobalt 28 000 t, mention cobalt from nickel-copper system accounted for a large proportion, followed by the cobalt concentrate sulfur, arsenic, cobalt ore and oxide ore. Since cobalt is mostly associated with other minerals, the grade is low and the recovery rate is generally low, especially the beneficiation recovery rate.

Hydrometallurgy is an important part of nickel-cobalt extraction metallurgy. It generally consists of three processes: leaching process, purification and separation process, and product process.
