July 2, 2008 - Danaher Motion, the world's leading provider of motion control solutions, today introduced the Dover DMM-101 single-axis controller and ST1 air bearing portfolio. The DMM-101 and ST1 offer a fully matched, easy-to-integrate subsystem solution for hard drive applications as a product portfolio or sold separately.

The new DMM-101 single-axis controller offers unparalleled speed stability (0.0006% stability at 7200 rpm) while providing a stable test platform for increased antenna track density. The interface of the DMM 101 is very flexible, either using the MCS-LA2000 or the MFM-BDC-610, making it ideal for use as a simple replacement for current media testers. User-adjustable PID gain adjustment optimizes performance under any payload.
In addition, the DMM-101 can position the spindle to any encoder within one revolution without the need to match the encoder number to the number of motor poles, thereby simplifying the user's exchange process.
ST1 air bearings have an extremely low error rate of less than 1.5 nanometers (1 sigma) at up to 20,000 rpm. The ST1 can increase the speed of a 65 mm disk to 15,000 rpm in less than a second, reducing the moment of inertia by 33% compared to similar products, thereby increasing media throughput and media testing speed.
