As we all know, the fuel economy of an automobile has an important relationship with the weight of the vehicle itself and the matching degree of the machine. However, a US study has pointed out that there is also an important link between car color and fuel enthusiasm.

This week, a U.S. media released a study and found that from an environmental perspective, silver-white cars consume less fuel than black cars. Researchers at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's Department of Environmental, Energy, and Technology (EETD) said that the color of automobiles affects fuel economy (fuel efficiency) and the extent of environmental pollution.

In this study, scientist Dr. Loren Levinson and his research team moored a silver car and a black car facing south in a parking lot in Sacramento, California, and placed them in the sun for one hour. The results showed that the solar reflectance (SR) of the silver and black car housings were 0.57 and 0.05, respectively. Silver car interior temperature lower than the same black car 5 °C ~ 6 °C. Overall, white or silver cars are more fuel efficient than black cars, with fuel efficiency increased by nearly 2%, while carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by 1.9%, and other gas emissions are reduced by 1%. In addition, silver or white cars can turn on air conditioners for a shorter period of time. The lighter the car's color, the lower the temperature in the car, and the time it takes to open air conditioners. Automotive air-conditioning will not only lead to increased fuel consumption, but will also increase emissions of automotive greenhouse gases and exhaust emissions.

In this sense, light-colored cars not only give passengers a comfortable feeling, but also reduce the negative impact on the earth's ecological environment. If this research result can be implemented in the automotive industry, fuel consumption will be significantly reduced. According to the 2% reduction in fuel consumption, the fuel savings of only US light vehicles is as high as billions. Silver, white and other light-colored car shells can reflect about 60% of the sunlight, but in fact some dark-colored cars will be more energy-efficient if they are properly designed. If you choose a black car just to satisfy the aesthetic requirements, then the car body may wish to use special paint that reflects only the invisible parts of the daylight.
