International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) Secretary-General Luc Maene said at the annual meeting of the Indian Fertilizer Association (FAI) in Hyderabad, India, that global fertilizer demand is expected to begin to recover in 2010, buoyed by rising prices of major crop products.
Maene stated that global fertilizer demand will increase by 4.9% from 2010 to 2011, and demand in all regions will increase. During most of the fourth quarter of this year, global agricultural product prices began to recover, which is the main basis for the expected global recovery of fertilizer demand.
However, Maene warned that the IFA's forecast has a high degree of uncertainty, and global fertilizer demand changes also depend on the degree of economic recovery and the future trend of crop prices.
